This is why we are an ethical enterprise that sources produce from micro-growers who practice regenerative farming, and supports local women who help us to create our award-winning, flavourful, preservative-free hot sauces, pestos, jams and chutneys without any added nonsense.

1. Fair Trade
We recently completed the SERRV Better World Partner Audit and received our verified partner certification. SERRV International is one of the first fair trade organisations in the world, established in 1949.
It’s more than just a label you see on product packaging! It’s a system of verification that works to ensure that the production and supply of any product meet standards for safe working conditions, liveable wages, and worker’s rights. SERRV’s mission is to build Sustainable Employment, Resources, Rights, and Vision within the small-scale artisan and farming communities. (It’s in the name!)
Additionally, Black Mamba is also a proud member of SWIFT, the Swaziland Fair Trade network, because we do believe that a better world is a fairer world. SWIFT is a member-based organisation providing training, trade, and advocacy to support Swaziland-based businesses by promoting fair trade for the sustainable socio-economic empowerment of producers & communities alike.
2. Made with real chillies & fruit
Most big-brand sauces, jams, chutneys and pestos are filled with mysterious chemicals and additives that are pretty hard to pronounce, let alone digest. On the other hand, our products contain real, fresh chillies, produce and fruit straight from the farm.
For instance, our Cayenne Chilli Sauce has a chilli component of 22% in comparison with commercial sauces that come in at around 5%. Suffice it to say, the difference in terms of authentic flavour is enormous. Plus you don't get the empty calories of added processed sugars without any depth of flavour.
3. Vegan & Cruelty-Free
A plant-based diet requires only one-third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet. At a time when all of our planetary resources are under strain, every small change you make as an individual can make a difference. Because our Black Mamba products and processes do not contain any animal-derived ingredients, it allows us to tread very gently on the earth.
4. Halaal-certified
Our Halaal certification is provided by the Swaziland Halaal Authority. Once a month, the Imam of Ezulwini comes to check our premises, procedures and ingredients to make sure we adhere to their regulations.
Since Black Mamba products are vegan we intrinsically don’t use any ingredients that can be considered haram (such as alcohol or animal meat), but having a certification provide additional peace of mind for our Muslim customers.
5. Sustainably farmed
One of our core pillars is the belief that we need to be as mindful and respectful as we can with our planet, and this is one of the reasons we partner with Guba Permaculture Training Centre. They share their knowledge of permaculture and regenerative agriculture with all the smallholders that grow our chillies and herbs. This allows us to get organically grown ingredients that are good for our customers, but also good for the Earth!
6. Black Mamba gives back
Black Mamba Foods derives its name from the most dangerous snake in Africa, which is endemic to Eswatini (for better or for worse!). We chose this name because we admire this powerful reptile and because it resonated with the metaphorical 'bite' of our chilli sauces.
The Eswatini Antivenom Foundation does a wonderful job providing free antivenom and payment for medical expenses for those in need, preventing unnecessary losses of lives and limbs. This is why we donate 10% of the proceeds from the sale of the merchandise on our site directly to the foundation to support their good work.
7. Planet-friendly Packaging
We make a point of bringing the notion of eco-friendly branding home with our packaging. All of our products are already packaged in glass, which can either be reused or recycled very easily. But that's not all! We have now also found a way to ship your delicious Black Mamba products to you without using any bubble wrap or plastic.
Instead, our clients receive their orders wrapped in dimple paper (a paper-based, eco-friendly alternative to bubble wrap developed right here in South Africa), packaged in cardboard boxes that are sealed with paper tape and accompanied by notes on seeded paper that you can plant to grow your own herbs at home!
